Silvera for Seniors

World Record

The goal:

Silvera for Seniors is an organization providing affordable housing for more than 1,500 seniors. Silvera was looking for a way to commemorate its 50th anniversary, to debunk common myths about seniors, to raise its profile in Calgary while increasing interaction between the residents of its various communities.

The project:

With these objectives in mind, Momentum Communications went straight to work, creating an event that would garner both public and media attention and help promote the active Cheap NFL Jerseys and healthy lifestyle that Silvera seniors live. Silvera residents would attempt a Guinness World Record for the most people doing a chair-based exercise!
Leading up to the event, Momentum engaged residents from the 31 different communities – developing promotional materials, coordinating training sessions and determining travel logistics. Guinness World Records required many specific and detailed guidelines be followed to set the record – including the guarantee of 250 participants.

The result:

On Sunday, September 9, 2012 –coinciding with National Grandparents’ Day – 272 seniors attempted to set Guinness World Record by doing a 30 minute Cane-Fu exercise. The event received coverage from seven Packers #12 Aaron Rodgers Green With C patch Stitched NFL Jersey different media outlets, and participants that included seniors from both supportive and independent residences, family members and Silvera staff. The official record was given to Silvera on November 15, 2012 and just added to the smashing success of the event!

The Goal: As TPFA’s communications partner, we work with the team to identify powerful stories that help us educate a broad Calgary audience about the special work being done by the management and staff of TPFA to advocate for low-income seniors.

The Project: As one of Calgary’s largest providers of independent seniors housing, Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta (TPFA) has as many captivating stories as they have residents. Momentum has established a strong relationship with the staff so that we are able to tell the TPFA story to the broader public, and enhance awareness of the organization’s work with examples of how a ‘more than housing’ philosophy is helping inspire programs to ensure low-income seniors are thriving at home.

The Result: Through ongoing strategic communications planning with TPFA, Momentum has implemented several strategies to highlight TPFA’s innovative approach to providing more than housing. Elements of the plan have included a quarterly newsletter to build community among residents, frequently approaches media with stories about TPFA’s residents and initiatives, and events from groundbreakings to funding announcements.
